Our mission is to provide an immersive experience in crop science research<\/em>, fostering scientific excellence and innovation to advance sustainable agriculture and food security. We aim to inspire the next generation of scientists, empowering them to shape the future of sustainable food and agriculture.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The unifying element of the PhD in Crop Science is the cultivated plant<\/strong>, for both agricultural and forestry aims. The scale of the research goes from the single cell to the ecosystem. We aim to prepare researchers to develop innovative, sustainable solutions for global agriculture, through different approaches, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Agrobiotechnologies<\/strong>: Plant genetics and breeding, genomics and proteomics of processes involved in the regulation of cell cycle, reproductive systems, seed development and fruit maturation\/ripening. Selection and genetic improvement of microorganisms for the conversion of residual biomass into high added value products.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Plant-environment interaction<\/strong>: Role of micro-organisms in symbiotic associations with plants, anti-oxydation systems and environmental stress, ecophysiology, plant-insect and plant-pathogen interactions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Ecosystem management<\/strong>: Human impact on ecological equilibrium, Integrated Pest Management, use of micro-organisms in ecosystem processes, including removal of pollutants, post-harvest management<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The Professional Profile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The professional roles that are expected to be trained, in addition to those in the academic field, coincide with figures of highly qualified technicians differentiated in relation to the line of research followed, however the neo-doctors will have a solid general training which sees the cultivated plant as a common element. Finally, for employment purposes, the launch of initiatives aimed at development is of particular importance for autonomous professional activities, also linked to the organization of spin-off proposals or start-ups (highly innovative new companies).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Agronomy and Crop Production<\/a><\/th>Agrobiotechnologies<\/a><\/strong><\/th>Plant protection<\/a><\/strong><\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
    This research line of the PhD explores a wide range of challenges linked to soil management, climate change, crop productivity, and technological innovation in modern agriculture. The studies combine field experimentation, remote sensing, modelling, and environmental analysis to develop strategies that improve sustainability and resilience in agricultural systems.<\/a><\/em><\/td>The agrobiotechnology research line of the PhD spans genetics, molecular biology, plant development, bioprocess engineering, and sustainable bio-based production. Together, these studies illustrate how biotechnology can address global challenges related to plant productivity, climate change, crop improvement, and renewable resource generation.<\/a><\/em><\/td>This research line of the PhD provides an integrated view of several major challenges in modern plant protection, focusing on invasive insects, plant pathogens, and pollinator conservation. The studies span forest ecosystems, agricultural crops, and multifunctional landscapes, highlighting how biological, ecological, and environmental factors interact to shape pest dynamics and ecosystem services.<\/a><\/em><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
